Why Do a GI MAP?
If you have chronic or unexplained health issues, getting a detailed picture of what’s actually going on inside your gut can provide invaluable information to start your healing process. As a saying attributed to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates goes, “all disease begins in the gut.” Whether you’re experiencing digestive issues, mood imbalances, low energy, skin disorders, or any number of other health conditions, healing the gut is the first place to start; and in order to heal the gut, we first need to know exactly what’s going on in there.
The GI MAP, my preferred testing method, provides a variety of benefits over traditional stool testing. The GI MAP uses DNA sequencing technology which is able to detect minute amounts of bacteria and other microorganisms and provide a quantitative result that indicates both type and amount of organism detected. For example, instead of just showing that a certain bacteria is present, the GI MAP will give you a number that shows exactly how elevated that bacteria is. Because of this sensitivity, the GI MAP provides a very comprehensive view of the gut microbiome in comparison to other types of testing available. The information provided by the GI MAP therefore allows for the development of highly effective, individually targeted dietary and supplement protocols to address your specific needs. Further, retesting after the completion of a dietary or supplement protocol gives concrete evidence of how well the protocol worked and whether additional healing is needed.
